  • ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 lb / 500 g ground beef
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 beef bouillon cube crumbled
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tsp Dijon mustard or 2 tsp dry mustard powder
Mushroom Gravy
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • ½ onion finely chopped
  • 5 oz / 150 g mushrooms sliced
  • 2 Tbsp / 30 g unsalted butter
  • 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Mix onion, breadcrumbs, ground beef, garlic, egg, ketchup, bouillon cube, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Shape into 5 oval patties.
  2. Brown patties in a large skillet over medium-high to high heat, then remove and set aside.
  3. Cook garlic, onion, and mushrooms in the skillet. Add butter and flour, then gradually add beef broth and water. Stir in Dijon mustard and Worcestershire sauce until the gravy thickens.
  4. Return patties to the gravy and simmer until cooked through. Ensure the patties reach 160°F / 71°C internally before serving.
