Ingredients

Blondies
  • ½ cup 113 g salted butter, melted
  • 1 cup 213 g packed light brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp 60 g pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg plus 1 large egg yolk at room temperature
  • 2 tsp 10 ml vanilla extract or vanilla paste
  • 1 cup plus 1 Tbsp 128 g all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup approximately 114 g chopped toasted pecans, divided
Maple Glaze
  • 1 tsp 5 g salted butter, melted
  • 4 tsp 27 g pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup approximately 28 g powdered sugar
  • tsp kosher salt
  • Flaky sea salt for finishing optional

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a light-colored 8×8-inch metal pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk the melted butter and brown sugar in a large bowl. Whisk in the maple syrup, egg, yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
  3. Fold in the flour, baking powder, kosher salt, and cinnamon just until no dry streaks remain. Fold in ¾ cup toasted pecans.
  4. Spread the batter evenly in the pan and top it with the remaining ¼ cup pecans. Bake for 20–22 minutes, until the top is set and a butter knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Cool for 30 minutes. Whisk the glaze ingredients until smooth, drizzle over the blondies, and add optional flaky sea salt. Lift from the pan and cut into 16 bars.
